How are these percentages calculated?
Each working set counts once for every distinct muscle group listed for that exercise in the training.fit library. Two muscles in the same group still count as one. Warm-up sets are excluded; optional exercises count only when selected.
The percentage is a group’s set count divided by the total of all group counts. One exercise can contribute to several groups. This describes planned sets, rather than measured muscle activation, effort or expected growth.
“All listed sessions” counts each session once. A group with no counted sets may still work during an exercise. Muscle groups without a separate area on the body map appear in the list only.
Exercises included in this view
Boring But Big adds substantial supplemental volume to Jim Wendler’s 5/3/1 strength work. After the main lift, you perform five sets of ten at a lighter load. The repeated work is the defining feature: this is a strength-and-size template for lifters who can recover from more than a minimal routine.
Who this plan suits
Choose it if you know the barbell lifts and want a clear way to add muscle-building work. Four lifting days are used in the example below. The supplemental squat and deadlift sets can be demanding, so an established habit of training and recovery matters more than the programme’s simple appearance.
Schedule and workout structure
The tables show the opening five-repetition week. The first three sets are the main 5/3/1 work; the following five are the lighter supplemental work. Follow the author’s training-max percentages and later-week changes. The assistance exercises and their fixed repetition counts below are training.fit choices within the template, not a unique mandatory selection. The calculation describes this week.

How progression works
Main lifts progress through the selected 5/3/1 cycle. Use a training max and begin the supplemental work conservatively. The author suggests roughly 30% of the training max for people new to BBB, with heavier supplemental loads developed over later cycles. Do not add a large accessory programme on top simply because the exercise list looks short. Conditioning should fit your goals and recovery.
What the science says
A dose-response review associated higher weekly volume with gains but also diminishing returns. BBB’s added sets increase the workload; the review does not show that its exact five-by-ten prescription is optimal. [1]
Concurrent aerobic and strength training were broadly compatible in a meta-analysis, while explosive strength could be affected. That finding does not guarantee unlimited conditioning will fit a high-volume lifting template. [2]
These papers examine training principles and prescriptions. They do not establish that 5/3/1 Boring But Big is superior to other well-designed programmes.
Programme source and version
This is the four-day, same-lift example from Wendler’s public BBB article. The alternate-lift version and later book templates remain separate choices. Jim Wendler: programme source.
